Initially, some 30 years ago, Universal Woods were a wood product importer and manufactured component parts for the furniture industry. Eventually, they added a finishing line that is 300' long that has allowed Universal Woods to add beautiful coatings to wood panels for furniture manufacturers and other industrial applications. They apply over fifty different coatings for a variety of products.
Today, Universal Woods is still manufacturing coated products for kitchen cabinets, component parts for pool tables, treadmills, desk tops, furniture parts and mezzanine decking. The balance of their business is UniSub.

So when was UniSub born? One fate filled day about 10 years ago Universal Woods received a call from a company that worked with Fisher Price toy manufacturer asking if they created sublimation coatings. Although Universal Woods was unfamiliar with sublimation at that time, they were intrigued by what they learned and decided to create a test product.

What Universal Woods discovered was that they had a product people would love and want to buy. In 1996 UniSub was launched. The name UniSub comes from the Latin word uni meaning one and sub is simply short for sublimation, thus UniSub. Since the surface of the product is not laminated it is "one" with the substrate.

In the early days, there were only a few items available for sublimation. Today the awards industry is literally exploding with Sublimatable items for imprinting. There are well over 100 items for imprinting from UniSub alone and many more from other companies.

The long range vision for UniSub is clear. Further development of full color personalized product and businesses that will utilize sublimation and continued development of more groups of people and companies that own sublimation equipment.
